Securing Plesk Control Panel on Windows Dedicated Server Hosting

Managing your server with control panel will make things easier for you as you will be able to do some tasks very easily with the help of control panel. Generally Plesk control panel is provided with Windows Dedicated servers. Having Plesk control panel will certainly make things easier for you as it is very simple to use Plesk and some absolutely amazing features are provided with Plesk control panel.

You must have taken a few necessary steps to secure your Windows Dedicated Server Hosting but make sure, only securing your server won't be enough as Plesk control panel has to be secured as well. You can secure your Plesk control panel from certain IP addresses so that the control panel is secured and you don't face any problem in future and this is important also. If someone gets access to your control panel, it means that he has accessed your server and you will face a lot of problems if this happens. Follow the steps given below to secure your Plesk control panel.

1) Allow Administrator access to Plesk from specific IP addresses or networks :-

a. Go to Server > Access

b. Now, click Add New Network and specify the required IP address.

c. Once done, click OK.

Note : You can also specify subnets. For this purpose you can use wildcard symbols (*) and subnet masks.

d. Now you will have to select the option, Denied from the networks that are not listed and click Set. When asked to confirm the operation, click OK.

Once you have done this, no one will be able to access your control panel from any other IP address or network.

If you have any idea of the IP addresses or networks that can cause problems, than you can also disable those IP addresses or Networks to have Administrator access to your control panel. You can do this by following the simple steps mentioned below.

a. Go to Server > Access

b. Now, click Add New Network and specify an IP address.

c. Now you will have to select the option, Allowed from the networks that are not listed and click Set. When asked to confirm the operation, click OK.

Plesk control panel has a feature which can be considered as an advantage or disadvantage for users. Plesk allows multiple simultaneous sessions for several users who have used the same login details to access the control panel. This means that if someone is using the login details which you have for your control panel than he can access your server at the same time while you are logged in your control panel. This can be a useful feature for you as well as other users to manage the control panel. This feature can also prove to be useful if you have accidently closed your browser. If you have closed your browser without logging our you will be unable to login again until your session expires. You can surely disable this funtion if you do not need it. You just have to follow the easy steps given below.

To disallow concurrent sessions for your administrative control panel :

a. Go to Server > Edit

b. Clear the Allow multiple sessions under administrator's login check box and click OK.

c. Once done the feature is disabled.
